That cushy work-at-home job can lead to social isolation, mental and physical health risks

There are more people who consider themselves "lonely" because of remote jobs. Jobs where people can stay at home cause people to have less human interaction and social isolation. However, there are people who work in offices who also feel lonely. According to the article, people in the entertainment and music industries are the loneliest. Senior executives, Hispanics, and younger workers also tend to be the loneliest.

Xi calls situation grave as China scrambles to contain virus

China and Hong Kong are in a state of emergency because of the new deadly virus. There are confirmed cases all over the world now like Japan, the US, etc. Everything in China is pretty chaotic-- transportation is being shut down, everyone is staying inside and wearing masks. Chinese New Year (lunar new year) was on Jan 25, 2020. Normally there are huge celebrations for lunar new year ever year, but this year the government shut it down to avoid a large public gathering. Temples and amusement parks are also shut down right now. There is no cure for the virus and not a clear way to contain it.

Gainesville Regional Airport reaches new heights with passenger record
Gainesville airport had a record amount of passengers since 1961. There is expected to be more growth in 2020, but there won't be additional flights, so it will be harder to book a flight through Gainesville. Dallas Fort worth, which is a huge international airport and a common layover spot,  is adding two new daily non-stops to Gainesville airport, which of course will bring more traffic.

  1. Hey Alexa. I also looked into and was able to find a few articles about the severity and scale of the coronavirus. After reading about it, I have realized how much of a threat it is to the country and the rest of the world. In China, it is spreading rapidly and even affecting how we do airport health screenings here. It is crazy how much of an impact one virus has had on so many people across the world. The climate proclamation article was also something I saw. It is really sad because global warming is really taking a toll on our planet.

  2. Hi Alexa! I find the first article you posted to be very interesting. I used to work strictly from home for about two years, and it is true that if you don't get out and work from somewhere other than your house or regularly go out with friends, you can become very socially isolated. I experienced this a lot working from home, which is why I started working from a local coffee shop or even just sitting outside on my patio so that I wasn't stuck inside.

  3. Hey Alexa! I was super interested in the second article you posted. It was super cool for me to see that, even though this is a local newspaper, they are still extremely up to date on worldwide current events. I feel that it is rather important for even local papers to do this because not everyone checks world-wide, or national news. It is clear to see that this virus is an issue of upmost importance, and it is imperative that everyone is well informed.
